Quinn Insists Third Airport Is Closer To Reality

(CBS) – The state has spent $34 million acquiring a general aviation airport in Monee, Bult Field, which the governor says will be incorporated into a third regional airport.

WBBM’s Mike Krauser reports.

Quinn and south suburban lawmakers on Thursday unveiled a sign for the project, which has been talked about for decades. The governor insists the project really is close to reality, though he couldn’t say when groundbreaking would occur.

“The longest journey begins with the first step,” Quinn said. “We just unveiled the name of the airport. We’re going to have a meeting next month where we bring in developers. But you must invest if you want to grow.”

State Rep. Al Riley, D-Hazel Crest, added: “What happens to a dream deferred? Sometimes they come true, and this is coming true. It’s coming true for our region.”

Nearly two million people live within a 15-minute drive of the site, officials noted.
